| We start the tour with a food-oriented bazaar walk through the Kotla Mubarakpur Sabzi Mandi (vegetable and spice market). |
| Kotla Mubarakpur is a medieval village, named after a Sultan of the Sayyid dynasty who ruled Delhi in the 15th century. Although this area lies well within Delhi city, it still retains a rural feel, making it an interesting venue for a food walk. The Kotla Sabzi Mandi is a large wholesale and retail bazaar, filled with stalls selling spices, fruits, vegetables and other daily needs items. Your host for the walk is a knowledgeable foodie. As you go through the market, he will provide you an introduction to the rich and diverse cuisine legacy of India. If you have any questions about Indian spices, cooking techniques or regional specialities, you are welcome to ask during the walk. |
| After the walk, your host will bring you to his home for an interactive cooking session. There is no “standard menu” for the meal; it is a creative, fun process based on the season and what’s available in the market. Both vegetarian and non-vegetarian food can feature on the menu, depending on your tastes. Feel free to pick your favourite veggies and spices from the market, and learn how to get creative with them!! While this is not a cooking class conducted by professionals, you’ll find yourself learning a lot about Indian food because of the interactive and fun nature of the session.
|
| If you do not wish to participate in the cooking and prefer to only watch and photograph, that is fine as well. This tour also provides a chance to visit a “regular” Delhi home, see what family life is like, and chat about daily life in the city. |
| Cooking takes between 60 – 90 minutes, after which you will eat together. After the tour, we will drop you back at your hotel.
